Match Report

1st game of the season away against Harbury A and it's the hottest Saturday October has ever seen at 28 degrees!  fortunately we had 8 players but we only wanted Sam and Lindz to play half a game each as they were playing up for the B at 3pm.  we started off with Kerrie GS, Jo Mitchell GA, Jillian WA, Lindz C, Jackie WD, Sue W GD and Kim GK with Sam on the side.

We started off well and matched Harbury goal for goal with them only ahead by 1 after the 1st quarter.  Lindz came off and Sam went on as C.  The 2nd quarter didn't get off to a very good start and we went down by 6 goals.  Jo kept getting pulled up for footwork so at half time we asked their umpire why, after this she never got pulled up again :)

The team seemed to get a bit stuck in centre court getting it into the circle so at half time we made another change, Lindz came back on as WA and Jillian came off.

First C pass and Sam's facing the wrong way but she soon found her stride and worked tirelesly up and down the court.

Harbury are an established team and have played together for some years, they play very long balls which are sometimes hard to intercept but Jackie did well and got a few.  Their GA didn't miss and had some excellent shots even with Sue W with a perfect lean.

We fought and fought throughout the 3rd and 4th quarter and at one point were 1 ahead but in the last quarter they pulled ahead by a couple of goals, we missed a few shots and their GD who we gave player to got some really good interceptions. some great shooting by Kerrie and Jo and also great defending but not many rebounds as they hardly missed but what they did Kim and Sue were there 1st.

It's a shame as we should have won but I think with the temperature and a new team playing together for the first time (only Kim and Lindz from last years C team) was maybe our downfall.  lessons learn't onwards and upwards and look forward to playing them at Bulkington after xmas.

Well done to Lindsey (amazing what a few quid can do) who got player but overall a good team performance.
